What is worth sending
An object you cannot work out. If you tell me roughly how old the thing is, what it is made of, and how it is fixed to whatever it is fixed to, that is usually enough to be useful. Photographs help more than descriptions do, particularly of the back of a thing, which is where the answer normally is.
Corrections are welcome and I would rather have one than be left wrong in public.
What I cannot do
I do not value antiques, authenticate makers’ marks, or tell you what something is worth. I am not a conservator and will not advise on anything genuinely rare, because the wrong soak on a good piece is not reversible. I also cannot tell you whether a specific handle suits your specific door. I cannot see your door.
